Automated calculation of area, number of packages, and final price in your online store via Unit Calculator

You've probably experienced it - during a home renovation, you need to choose and order flooring. You're in the store or browsing online, you find tiles, laminate, or carpet that you like… and then comes the moment of hesitation: "How many square meters do I need?" "How many packs should I order?" "Will it be enough?"

What follows are measurements, calculations, asking your contractor, and often contacting a sales assistant or calling the online store’s call center. All this slows down the process and takes away from the positive user experience. And this is where the need arises for an automated solution that eliminates unnecessary questions and helps the customer reach the final step - the order faster and with less effort.

The solution: Stenik Unit Calculator

Fewer calculations, more orders.

To make shopping for unit-based products easier and to meet the expectations of today’s online users, at Stenik we developed the Unit Calculator module. It integrates into the product detail page and automatically calculates the required quantities (number of packs, boxes, rolls, square or linear meters) and final price based on parameters entered by the user.

The calculator can be customized to match the online store’s design and configured for different product groups (attribute sets) - tiles, granite tiles, carpets, linoleum, laminate, grass coverings, etc., as well as for products sold per package.

With the Stenik Unit Calculator on the product detail page, you reduce the time to sale and eliminate the need for the user to submit inquiries or contact your online store’s sales team. No more waiting for email replies or phone calls.

How does the calculator work in online stores?

Stenik Unit Calculator can be configured for any number of calculators in a single online store, depending on product specifics. Different calculation methods are also possible:

Pack quantity calculator

  • The customer enters the desired area (sq.m) or number of packs/boxes.
  • The calculator automatically determines the required packs or square meters based on the entered data.
  • The final price is calculated dynamically, based on the entered values.
  • There is an option to set a minimum order quantity based on the packaging size of the product (e.g. a box of tiles = 0.72 sq.m).

Linear meter calculator

  • The customer sees a fixed width (defined for the product based on its specifications). For example, 4 meters.
  • They enter the desired length or area.
  • The calculator automatically determines the required length or square meters, based on the input.
  • The final price is displayed, calculated from the entered parameters.

Linear meter calculator for configurable products with variations

  • The customer selects the width from a dropdown menu (e.g. 3 m, 4 m, 5 m, etc.).
  • They enter the desired length or directly the area.
  • The calculator computes the total area and final price based on the selected width and entered parameters.

Rounding option for entered values

Stenik Unit Calculator supports an option for rounding the quantities/values entered by the user (sq.m, linear meters, pack count, etc.). It can be configured in two ways, depending on business needs:

  • Forced rounding – the system automatically adjusts the user’s input to the closest valid value based on the product specifications (e.g. one box).
  • Recommended rounding (with notification only) – the user receives a prompt that the entered quantity does not match the pack/box size, etc.

Benefits for the business and end customers

For the business:

  • Fewer phone calls and email inquiries – reduced workload for the call center and sales team.
  • Fewer order mistakes – fewer returns and dissatisfied customers.
  • Higher conversion – streamlined shopping process. When the customer clearly sees the price and quantity, they are more likely to complete the purchase.

For customers:

  • Better user experience and trust.
  • Faster orders.
  • Pricing transparency even before adding to the cart.
