What solution did we implement on Douglas.bg?
The Stenik team implemented a functionality for dynamic visualization and calculation of discounts and promo codes, based on the integration between Magento promo rules and the visual interface of the online store.
Visualization of discounts (promo codes) based on promo rules on the listing page
The new functionality allows the creation of multiple promo rules, each with its own discount percentage and unique promo code. The system visualizes both the specific discount percentage (defined in the promo rule) and the associated promo code. Each promotional code is linked to a specific promo rule that applies to a predefined list of products – a list of products for which the condition is valid. The configuration is done in the Magento admin panel, where conditions can be set based on product SKUs, attributes (such as color or size), or their combinations.
On the listing page, each product that is part of a promo rule (a promotional product) shows the specific discount percentage and the related active promo code.
When a product falls under more than one promo rule, the rule with the higher priority is applied. For example: Product A – part of 2 campaigns
- Rule 1: 15% with code “BEAUTY15”
- Rule 2: 20% with code “SUMMER20” (higher priority) The system will automatically show Rule 2 due to the higher priority configuration.
Automated calculation of the final price on the product detail page based on promo code
On the product detail page, in addition to the discount percentage and the respective active promo code, we added the final price (after applying the promo code). This applies to both simple products and configurable products with various attributes (e.g., different sizes or colors with different promotions).
- For simple products: The system calculates and displays the final product price on the detail page, exactly as it would be after applying the promo code. The user sees the actual amount they will pay.
- For configurable products, which contain multiple “simple” variations (for example, different volumes, sizes, or colors), the visualization works dynamically, meaning each product variation can have its own promo rule, allowing the assignment of different prices, discounts, and promo codes according to the specific variation.
Support for different price types
The system works correctly with all price types and calculates the discount based on the actual active price:
- Regular price.
- For products with a special/promotional price, the system visualizes a valid promo code and calculates the final price based on the already discounted value. This means a promo code can also be applied to a discounted product.
- MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price).
Automation and scalability
When a new promo rule is saved, Magento triggers an automated process that scans the products, assigns the relevant promo codes, indexes the discount percentages, and calculates prices, regardless of whether they are simple or configurable products.
The functionality also works in multi-website configurations, allowing different campaigns for different language versions or the assignment of individual discounts for the mobile app compared to the main website. This is particularly valuable for merchants who often run campaigns with different discounts for their website and mobile app (with different promo codes and percentages), as is the case with Douglas.
