How to increase international sales with automated customer review translation?
01.07.2026 6 min. 67 views
Today, consumers trust the opinions of real customers much more than traditional advertising. High-quality customer reviews build trust, reduce hesitation when choosing a product and have a direct impact on conversions. When social proof is missing, consumers feel less confident and are much more likely to choose a competing online store that already displays real reviews.
When entering new international markets, customer reviews become an even more valuable asset. Consumers expect to see product reviews in their own language before they trust a foreign brand and make a purchase. In practice, however, new language versions of an online store often launch without reviews, even though the main language version of the store already has many customer reviews.
To help online retailers use the trust built in one market across all other markets, Stenik’s team of certified Magento developers created a solution for automated translation, sharing and management of customer reviews across all language versions of the online store.
What are the benefits of automated review translation and sharing?
Automated translation and sharing of customer reviews turn the trust already built in one market into a competitive advantage for all other language versions of the online store. This brings a number of business benefits:
- Faster trust building in new markets: Collecting customer reviews from local users for each new language version takes time. By automatically translating existing reviews, you use already built trust as a competitive advantage from day one. This reduces uncertainty during purchase and speeds up trust building in the brand.
- Higher conversion rate: Consumers are much more likely to place an order when they see real experiences from other customers in their own language. Social proof is one of the strongest factors for increasing conversions.
- Better visibility in search engines (SEO and GEO): Translated reviews add unique and relevant content to product pages, which is indexed and improves visibility in traditional search engines. Online reviews are a key factor for local SEO. In the context of modern generative engine optimization (GEO), user-generated content such as reviews is seen as a trust signal. Product pages with more authentic opinions provide richer context and have a better chance of being used as a source in AI-generated answers.
- Better user experience (UX): Reviews in the user’s language create a sense of local presence, build trust and improve the overall user experience.

How does the automated review translation and sharing solution work?
After a new customer review is published, the system automatically identifies which language versions require a translation. It then generates the translation using the Google Translate API and publishes the review in the corresponding versions of the online store. As a result, customer reviews appear automatically across all selected language versions without any manual work.
The solution provides the following features:
- Automatic translation of customer reviews between different language versions of the store.
- Review sharing between related products and product variants.
- Centralized content management and moderation.
- The ability to choose which products and language versions share customer reviews.
- Manual editing or hiding of translated reviews.
- Individual settings for each review to decide whether it should be translated and copied.
- Management of review sharing between product groups.
- Protection against duplicate content through smart logic.
For greater transparency, translated reviews can be marked with a subtle visual indicator (icon) that informs users the review has been translated automatically. This is a common practice used by international online retailers such as Amazon and Temu.
What is the Review Sharing feature?
Review Sharing is a feature that allows administrators to group and manage the display of customer reviews for similar products, product groups or different variations of the same product (color, size, package size), so they can share and display the same set of customer reviews. For example, if five related products each have two reviews, after grouping them, every product will display a total of ten reviews.
Configuring Review Sharing
Depending on your business needs, it can be configured in two ways:
1. Manual grouping using a product attribute (Review Group)
Administrators can use a dedicated product attribute (for example, "Review Group") by assigning the same value to products that should share customer reviews.
Example: An online cosmetics store sells the same face cream in 30 ml and 50 ml sizes as separate products. If both products are assigned the same value for the "Review Group" attribute, they will automatically share all collected customer reviews.
2. Grouping based on a product variant attribute
Grouping is done through a product variant attribute where the SKUs of different product variants are entered. Based on this information, the system automatically combines and displays reviews across all related variants.
Example: If a customer leaves a review for the blue version of a pair of sneakers, the review and rating will automatically appear on the product pages for the black and red versions of the same model.

What level of administrative control do you get over the content?
The administrative controls allow merchants to manage how reviews are translated, copied, edited and displayed across the different language versions of the online store.
- Review-level control: The administrator can decide whether a specific review should be included in the automatic translation and sharing process.
- Product group flexibility: The Review Sharing attribute value can be removed in the admin panel. In this case, reviews will no longer be shared between products within the group, but they will still be translated and published in the other language versions of the same product.
- Manual editing and moderation: Administrators can edit automatically translated texts to make them sound more natural, as well as hide or delete inappropriate reviews before or after they appear on the website.
The solution is ideal for online retailers selling in international markets who want to make the most of the customer reviews they have already collected.
