Redesign and migration of Aiko XXXL online store from custom platform to Magento and Hyvä

Since 2020, Stenik has been the technology partner of Aiko XXXL - the furniture giant and part of the Austrian XXXLutz Group, one of the most dynamic organizations in Europe and one of the largest furniture retailers in the world. Aiko XXXL has established a strong offline presence in Bulgaria, with physical stores in Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Varna, and Burgas.

Our pilot project with Aiko XXXL was the migration from a custom platform to Magento - we developed a fully functional B2C online store tailored to their business needs and customer requirements. You can read more about the first B2C store we developed for them on our blog.

Over the years, we have continued to support and enhance the online store, ensuring ultimate technical support while meeting high expectations for stability, scalability, and security.

In 2024, as part of their strategy to further expand their online presence and improve user experience and overall performance, Aiko XXXL approached us with a request to execute a Magento update, a complete redesign, and a migration to the Hyvä Theme.

The goals of the furniture giant included:

  • Upgrading Magento to the latest available version for improved system performance;

  • Migrating to the Hyvä Theme for better performance, faster page load speed, and enhanced user experience, especially on mobile devices;

  • Migration and adaptation of existing custom modules, updating of third-party modules and functionalities;

  • UX redesign of the main pages for more intuitive navigation and a modern look. Responsive design with a strong focus on mobile performance;

  • General security enhancements;

  • SEO improvements for better indexing and higher search engine visibility.

Highlights of the new online store include:

  • Redesigned product detail page - with focus on the image gallery and more compact information. A sticky gallery (desktop) keeps the product in focus while key information such as availability, delivery time, and payment methods is presented clearly and concisely to assist users in their purchase decision-making;

  • Larger and more detailed image gallery on product pages - providing a better visual presentation of items;

  • Improved filters on category pages - new sticky popup navigation remains visible while scrolling, enhancing UX and maintaining user attention;

  • Popup for checking in-store availability and payment method - “Buy on installments” directly on the product detail page;

  • Improved mega menu and mobile menu design - with added icons/pictograms that enhance category recognition and make navigation easier;

  • New design of the “Loyalty Program” page - focusing on visual representation of benefits for customers and clearly defined participation terms;

  • Improved cart page design - with sticky summary section on the left (desktop), providing constant visibility of cart contents and total price;

  • Redesigned FAQ page - with improved structure allowing users to quickly find the information they need.

With this project, Aiko XXXL further strengthens its position not only as one of the leaders in the furniture industry in Bulgaria, but also as a company that is consistently investing in its digital presence to deliver a superior user experience to its end customers.
